2023/06/13 12:21:14 PM

Professor Taole Mokoena has been appointed as the new Health Ombud of South Africa, and we extend a warm welcome to him as a valuable addition to our AOMA famil

Appointed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Joe Phaahla for seven years with effect from 1 June 2023, Professor Mokoena brings with him extensive experience from his time in the United Kingdom and Canada. With remarkable qualifications and a distinguished career, including serving as a Professor and Academic Head, Professor Mokoena's expertise will be instrumental in advancing healthcare excellence and protecting patient rights.

As the Health Ombud, Professor Mokoena will play a crucial role in ensuring healthcare standards and addressing public complaints within South Africa's health system. His appointment comes as Professor Malegapuru Makgoba, the outgoing Health Ombud, concludes his remarkable service, for which we express our deep gratitude.

At AOMA, we extend our warmest wishes to Professor Mokoena as he embarks on this important journey. We are thrilled to collaborate with him and provide our support in his efforts to promote healthcare excellence and safeguard the rights of patients.

It is noteworthy that the Office of the Health Ombud operates independently within the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC). Established under the National Health Amendment Act of 2013, the Health Ombud is accountable to the Minister of Health and has the responsibility to consider and investigate complaints related to non-compliance by health establishments.

The appointment of Professor Mokoena is a testament to South Africa's commitment to upholding healthcare standards and ensuring the well-being of its citizens. AOMA acknowledges the significance of having the Health Ombud as a member of our association, as it reflects our shared vision of promoting fairness, justice, and healthcare excellence across the African continent.

Please join us in congratulating Professor Taole Mokoena on his appointment as South Africa's Health Ombud. We look forward to witnessing his impactful contributions to the advancement of healthcare and patient rights.Type your content here...
